What is Altrusa?
Altrusa is the first classified service organization for women, founded in 1917 in Nashville, TN (Men are now welcomed as members, too!). Our purpose is to promote community service through an international network of people.

The Altrusa International, Inc. of Appleton has been a contributing member of our community for over 60 years. As with all Altrusa clubs, membership is diverse, offering wellrounded Altrusa leadership to the club’s service projects. Each Altrusa club has its own board of directors, a strong committee system, and regular monthly meetings. These elements make it possible for each member to have significant personal involvement. All members serve on a committee which also meet monthly. These committees include:
Each committe has assigned projects for which they are responsible during the year. Altrusa is a non-profit club All proceeds from fundraisers benefit community projects. The club’s service project activities are conducted through the Altrusa International, Inc. of Appleton, Charitable Foundation Ltd. All contributions to the foundation are tax deductible.

The Altrusa Club of Appleton is a part of District Seven, which includes members in 30 clubs in the central U.S. and Canada. The district has an annual conference held in the spring and also conducts workshops and leadership training programs.
At the International Level  Back to Top
The Altrusa International program sets the theme for Altrusa worldwide, uniting members in more than 13 countries in a common goal of community service. The international office is located in Chicago, IL. Every member receives Altrusa International publications. A wide variety of other materials is available from the international office to help clubs meet their objectives. An international convention is held every two years, drawing members from throughout the world to conduct the business of the organization, to recognize achievement and for workshops on community service, club administration and leadership. Altrusa’s many members worldwide have adopted improving literacy as their international service project.
